Elcock and Frederick are now the seventh and eighth local athletes to achieving qualifying marks for this year's Carifta Games in Williamsted, Curacao on April 14-17.  Shaquille Benjamin (Bishops High/Kaizen Panthers), Rae-Ann Serville (St. Joseph Convent-POS/Memphis Pioneers),  Asha James (Signal Hill Sec/Zenith), Avindale Smith (QRC/Abilene Wildcats), Jacob St. Clair (QRC/Abilene Wildcats) and  Ianna Roach (Bishops Anstey/Memphis), are the other qualifiers.

Benjamin was the first to hit a Carifta standard when he matched the boys under 18 high jump standard of 1.90m in winning the event at the First NAAA Development Meet at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on December 11. He then cleared 1.90 again at the Third NAAA Meet (Dwight Yorke Stadium-January 15).  Last week Monday (February 6) he was over 1.90m yet again in taking gold at Bishops High School Sports Meet. However, his performance is yet to ratified by the NAAA. Asha James was more than two metres over the girls under 20 javelin standard of 39.00m when she won the event with a mark of 41.48m at the Third NAAA Meet. Smith zoomed under the 49.25 second standard for the boys under 18 400m when he clocked 49.06 at the Fourth Development Meet. St. Clair ran inside the 47.80 clocking for the boys under 20 400m with his 47.75 winning time in the men's 400m at the 400m at the Fourth Development Meet.  Roach went over the girls under 18 shot put barrier of 13.50 with a 13.62m effort on the first day of the Fifth Development Meet a the Hasely Crawford Stadium on January 28.
 
Tyrese Rawlins (Neon Wolves) and Che Lara (Arima North Sec/Abilene Wildcats) came close to attaining qualifying standards at the Sixth Development Meet. Rawlins clocked 14.76 in winning the boys under 18 110m hurdles but was 0.26 seconds off the 14.50 standard while Lara took the boy under 18 400m in 49.65, 0.40 seconds short of the 49.25 time.  Lara was also second in the 200m in 22.18 (22.05 standard). Akidah Briggs (Toco Sec/Toco Titans) and Clarence Hannibal (Signal Hill Sec/Tobago Falcons) came close to Carifta marks in their events recently.  On the second day of the North East Secondary Secondary Schools Zonal Championships at Toco Secondary on February 2,  Briggs won the girls over 18 javelin with a distance of 38.99m, 1cm short  of 39.00m standard for the girls under 20 javelin. Hannibal was 5cm adrift of the  boys under 20 discus (47.00m) distance when he won the event at the Fourth Development with a throw of 46.95m.

Jerad Elcock (QRC/Abilene Wildcats), Timothy Frederick (Vessigny Sec/Pt. Fortin New Jets) and Rae-Ann Seville (St. Joseph Convent-POS/Memphis Pioneers) were the standard out performers at the Sixth NAAA Development Meet at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Sunday, February, 5. The trio sped to Carifta qualifiers performances in their events. Elcock dipped under the boys under 20 200m standard of 21.40 seconds when he won the event in a new personal best of 21.26. Earlier in the meet he also won the 100m in 10.73 seconds, missing the 10.60 standard. Elcock recorded his fourth victory for 2017 season after he won the 400m (49.49) at the Second NAAA Development Meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on January 14. He was also victorious in the 100m (10.71) at the Fourth Meet (Hasely Crawford Stadium-January 21). Frederick edged past the 22.05 standard for the boys under 28 200m when he stopped the clock at 22.04 in winning the event at at the Sixth Meet. He also captured the 100m in 11.03, 0.18 seconds short of the 10.85 standard.

Serville ran past the the girls under 18 400m standard of 57.00 with her 56.19 in winning section two of the girls under 16 400m. Serville's time may have well been the fastest time of the three races but no time was given for the runners in section three. She is now a double qualifier after he attained the 200m mark of 25.15 when he ran 24.82 to take the girls under 16 half lap race at the Second Meet on January 14.
